Pears Poached in Chocolate and Red Wine

6 firm pears peeled with stems intact	1 bottle red wine
2 cups orange juice			rind from 2 oranges
1 cup caster sugar			1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 cinnamon sticks

Place wine, juice, rind, sugar, cocoa and cinnamon into a large saucepan and heat until sugar and cocoa are dissolved through.

Add the pears and simmer on a gentle heat, turning occasionally, for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Remove the pears and set aside.

Increase the heat and bring the syrup up to the boil. Boil uncovered for about 20 minutes, until thick.

To serve, place pears onto serving plates and drizzle over the syrup. Ice cream would be a suitable accompaniment.
