1 cup figs 1 cup walnuts 2 tablespoons oil 1 cup honey 1 teaspoon vanilla 3/4 cup water 1 egg 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Preheat oven to 160°C. Chop figs and walnuts. Mix oil, honey and vanilla. Boil the water and stir it into the mixture. Add the figs and nuts then cool. Beat in the egg. Sift the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add to the honey mixture and stir well.
Butter and flour a nine inch loaf pan. Pour in the batter. Bake about 1 1/4 hours until a skewer comes out clean. Cool for five minutes in the tin then remove and finish cooling on a rack.
